Congrats to Pike Central Schools

In Local News on May 12, 2010 at 10:26 am

Monday night, the Pike Central school board unanimously approved a comprehensive tobacco-free campus policy. This policy prohibits tobacco use by everyone, everywhere on schools grounds, at all times — include staff and visitors. It also provides an intervention program for kids caught using tobacco and cessation support for staff who want to quit.

The purpose of this policy is to set a good example for students, to create a tobacco-free culture for students. It puts into action the lessons health teachers are teaching in the classrooms.

The Pike Co. Tobacco Prevention Coalition wants to thank the school board members and school administrators for their support of this important policy. We will be purchasing tobacco-free grounds signs for the schools and assisting the school in applying for the Gary Sandifur Tobacco-Free School Award.
