Hearing On Smokefree Workplaces Bill, Pt. 2

In State News on February 10, 2009 at 9:18 am

It’s amazing the number of people interested in the discussion about whether the state should ban smoking in public places, including private businesses such as bars, restaurants and casinos. My post yesterday about this issue was by far the most read post yet on this blog.

The way I feel about it is this: People should be able to do what they want in their own homes (although I would prefer they not smoke around their children!). But we would not allow people to emit toxic and deadly gases from any other sources into a public area, so we should not allow them to emit toxic and deadly cigarette smoke, either. Even the opponents of smokefree workplace legislation won’t debate the dangers of secondhand smoke anymore.

Here are some links to get solid evidence about the facts surrounding this debate:

Don’t take what I say for granted. Read the research for yourself.
