WASHINGTON, Ind. – Steve Troutman was tired of cigarettes. The cost of buying cigarettes and the health problems from using them were so bad he decided to quit. So he signed up for a stop smoking class at Daviess Community Hospital.

Troutman, who works for Jamestown Square Apartments, had tried to quit two or three times but always fell back into the addiction before the DCH stop smoking class gave him the skills to quit for good. Almost immediately after he quit smoking, everything got better, he said, from his finances to his breathing to his energy.

“The class was very informative,” he said. “Everything you learn in there can help you make the decision to quit. There isn’t anything easy about it, but the people that taught the class were really good. It was something I wanted to do, and it helped that people got together to help each other out.”

Healthcare professionals at DCH can help you quit smoking for good, too. The next free stop smoking class will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. each Wednesday for four weeks starting Feb. 18. Not only will you learn tools that can help you quit smoking, you will receive free nicotine replacement therapy to help you stick to your commitment to quit. To register, call 254-8620 Ext. 532.
